Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

George III period trays, dating from the late 18th to early 19th century, are typically crafted from dense Cuban or West Indian mahogany. They often feature refined hand-carved borders, such as piecrust or wavy scalloped gallery edges, designed to keep contents secure.

Trays from this era were constructed from single or jointed planks of high-grade mahogany, hand-planed and polished. Raised rims were either bent, carved, or pieced together with tiny wooden pegs or fine dovetails along the perimeter.

Authentic pieces display natural timber shrinkage across the grain over time, resulting in slight oval irregularity or minor warp. The underside often shows hand-tooling marks, original dark patination, and secondary wood block reinforcements beneath the rim.

Place the tray flat on a coffee table or sideboard to anchor small decorative items, such as crystal decanters, brass candleholders, or small ceramic vases. It can also be displayed upright on an easel inside a display cabinet or library bookshelf.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply beeswax polish periodically along the wood grain to protect the patina. Avoid exposing the timber to standing liquids, direct heat sources, or harsh chemical cleaners.
