Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, sofa tables were designed to sit behind a sofa or freestanding within a drawing room. They feature two drop-down end flaps, shallow drawers along the frieze, and a narrow rectangular top supported by twin pedestals or end supports.

Dense mahogany, rosewood, and walnut were the primary hardwoods used during the Georgian and Regency periods. Secondary timbers often include oak or pine for drawer linings, complemented by cast brass lion-mask or ring handles and brass castors.

Authentic period pieces may feature stamped maker names or inventory numbers on drawer edges, frames, or locks. Hand-dovetailed drawer joints, hand-planed secondary timbers, original cast brass hardware, and natural timber oxidisation further confirm authenticity.

Position the sofa table directly behind a floating sofa, in an entrance hallway as a console, or beneath a window as a compact writing desk. Pair the dark timber with structured table lamps, neutral upholstery, or minimalist ceramic accessories.

Maintain mahogany by dusting regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year along the direction of the grain. Position the item away from direct heat sources and bright sunlight to prevent movement or colour fading.
