A pair of nineteenth-century Victorian console tables made from dark brown Santos mahogany with a polished dark finish. Each table has a well-figured, moulded serpentine top above a serpentine frieze decorated with a central carved cabochon and scrolling foliage, supported by straight rear panels and tapering, moulded cabriole front legs with scroll motifs, pad feet on ring-turned plinths, and a serpentine lower tier display shelf with reed detail. The tables measure 89.5 cm high, 154.9 cm wide, and 48.9 cm deep. These pieces work well in a narrow wall space in a hallway, living room, or dining room, providing a surface for lamps or decorative items alongside additional lower storage.

Maintain polished hardwood tables by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year, keeping the furniture away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber movement.

A pair of matching console tables can be styled symmetrically flanking a fireplace, positioned in a spacious grand hallway with large decorative mirrors hung above them, or placed behind a modern sofa to anchor an open-plan room.

Authentic period pieces show evidence of hand-carving along the frieze and legs, hand-cut joinery on supporting frames, natural age-related shrinkage in the timber, and a genuine aged patina on the underside and reverse sides.

High-end 19th-century console tables were predominantly constructed from dense hardwoods such as solid mahogany or rosewood, often featuring rich flame mahogany veneers and hand-carved ornamental mouldings.

Originating in the mid-19th century, Rococo Revival furniture drew inspiration from 18th-century French designs, characterised by sweeping S-curve cabriole legs, serpentine fronts, and ornate wood carving.
