Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This eighteenth-century Georgian circular Bristol delftware charger is shaped from tin-glazed earthenware and hand-painted in cobalt blue and white. The centre displays an oriental chinoiserie landscape scene featuring a pavilion, trees, rocks and distant water, enclosed by a shallow well, raised rim and a geometric border pattern running around the edge. Minor edge chips and small hairline cracks appear across the glazed surface from age and handling. The plate stands 2 cm high, measures 23 cm wide and 23 cm deep overall. Display this decorative plate on a sideboard top in an English country house dining room or living space. It sits flat on surfaces for decorative exhibition or holds small items within everyday domestic routines.

FAQs

British delftware refers to tin-glazed earthenware produced in Britain from the late sixteenth century through the late eighteenth century, predominantly in centres such as London, Bristol, and Liverpool. Influenced by Dutch and Chinese ceramics, these items feature an opaque white glaze painted with cobalt blue oxide motifs.

These chargers were hand-thrown using local clay mixtures, fired once into biscuit earthenware, dipped into a lead-tin oxide liquid glaze, and then hand-painted with mineral pigments before a final high-temperature firing.

Authentic pieces often exhibit characteristic glaze flaking or fritting along the rim due to the soft clay body, pinhole imperfections in the glaze, a slightly bluish-pink glaze tint, and a visible unglazed foot rim.

Delftware chargers can be displayed on plate stands atop sideboards, arranged in a wall gallery group, or mounted inside traditional wooden dressers to complement both modern and historic interiors.

Dust gently with a dry, soft microfiber cloth and avoid soaking or using chemical detergents, as water can seep into unglazed areas or crazing lines and destabilise the body.
