Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An unusual small Edwardian door knocker takes the form of a miniature grandfather clock rendered in polished brass with a warm gold tone. The casting incorporates a distinct scroll pediment at the top, a detailed engraved clock face showing roman numerals and hands, an arched panel on the long body, an inlaid diamond motif in the centre, and a decorative fleur-de-lis symbol within a shaped moulding at the pedestal base. Surface wear appears as minor scratches across the polished metal finish, reflecting authentic age. Measuring 8.8 cm tall and 2.5 cm wide, this compact novelty item provides a subtle whimsical accent when mounted beside an entryway, or functions as a decorative pull on interior doors within a bedroom, study, library or bathroom. Visitors encounter the piece upon arrival, making it a charming talking point in an English country house setting.

FAQs

A novelty brass door knocker is a decorative architectural hardware piece cast into a figurative or miniature object shape, such as a longcase clock, animal, or folk character, designed to add interest to entryways.

Traditional brass knockers were made using molten brass poured into sand moulds, after which the castings were hand-chased, filed, and polished to create crisp surface details.

Authentic pieces feature subtle surface irregularities from hand-casting, natural oxidisation in recessed areas, age-appropriate friction wear near mounting points, and an absence of modern machine stamping.

A small brass knocker can be mounted on a wooden interior study door, fitted to a period front door, or mounted on a timber plaque as decorative wall art within a hallway.

Maintain brass hardware by wiping with a soft cloth and warm soapy water to remove dust, avoiding harsh abrasive polishes that strip away historic surface patination.
