Chinese Porcelain Bowl, James Giles Decorated, London, C. 1765.

Chinese porcelain bowl, decorated in the James Giles workshop, London, c. 1765; the porcelain c. 1750. The fluted bowl, hand painted in famille rose style enamels,with panels of Chinese boys, holding birds in garden settings, and panels of flowering plants.
 
Divided by Japanese brocade style panels of chrysanthemum Mons against a gilt cell diaper motif, on an iron red ground.
 
The interior with a further iron red chrysanthemum Mon and four petals.
 
Diameter – 14 cm, 5 1/2”.
 
Height – 6.5 cm, 2 1/2”.
 
Condition – Minor wear to the gilding. No damage. No restoration.
 
A similar example can be found in the Ashmoleum Museum, Oxford, and
 
illustration 95, in ‘James Giles, China and Glass Painter’, Stephen Hanscombe.
