A Pair of North German Tapestry Cushions, 17th Century, 59cm X 59cm

I am delighted to have acquired this pair of 17th century North German Tapestry cushions which was on of the most prized items in the George Farrow collection. To find a pair of this age, quality and condition is quite exceptional. A central circular panel on each depicts the well-known Biblical scene of Samson struggling with the Lion. The rest of the field is filled with animal, flowers, foliage and angelic figures, while the border has priestly figures surrounded by similar foliage. The entire composition is beautiful and charming, Subtle colours make them even more appealing. Finely woven and in excellent original condition, they are now framed and ready for immediate use. The dimensions of each are 59cm x 59cm including the frame.
