Description

George V mahogany pedestal dining table

This George V mahogany pedestal dining table was made circa 1930 in a top workshop.

It is in the high-Georgian style that has been popular for 250 years.

These dining tables are fantastic as you can get so many people around them as the supports are on the 2 central pedestals, thus allowing you to sit 2 people at each end if required.

The dining table has 2 leaf inserts that can be used when required.

Therefore, you have a multiple combination of table size, either without any leaves, 1 set in place or both.

Imagine dining with your family and friends around this fine mahogany table and the pleasure you will have.

Each of the pedestals have the turned mahogany column and then with the 3 splay legs sweeping away to the square brass toes with the rolling castors under.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Pedestal dining tables gained prominence during the Georgian and Regency periods, moving away from traditional four-leg designs to maximise legroom and allow greater flexibility in seating arrangements.

These tables are traditionally constructed from dense hardwoods such as mahogany or walnut, featuring turned central pillars supported by splayed, reeded legs frequently terminating in brass paw castors.

Authentic pieces are identified through hand-cut joinery, timber shrinkage patterns, patination consistent with age, and traditional methods of securing the pedestal base to the underside of the top.

Pairing a dark wood pedestal table with contemporary upholstered dining chairs and minimalist lighting creates a balanced contrast that anchors a modern dining space.

Maintain the finish by avoiding direct sunlight, using coasters and placemats to protect against heat and moisture, and periodically applying quality beeswax rather than silicone polishes.
