This George III dining table dates from the eighteenth century in the English Country House style, constructed from solid Cuban mahogany with a dark brown timber colour and brass hardware. The piece consists of a rectangular top with wide rosewood crossbanding and a hand carved gadrooned edge, supported on a central column and a quadruped pedestal base with four splayed sabre legs featuring acanthus leaf carving, drop bell husks, and original solid brass lion paw castors. The table measures 73.75 cm high, 135 cm wide, and 102.5 cm deep. Suitable for seating up to eight people, this dining table serves as a functional centrepiece in a traditional dining room or a spacious living area. The sturdy quadruped pedestal base provides ample legroom beneath the top, allowing chairs to be tucked in neatly when not in use. The rich dark brown timber tones complement both formal interior schemes and classic home furnishings.

George III dining tables were produced in Britain between 1760 and 1820, characterised by the use of high-quality Cuban or West Indian mahogany, precise joinery, and neoclassically inspired proportions.

These tables were constructed primarily from solid and veneered mahogany, featuring secondary timbers such as pine or oak for internal framing, alongside brass castors and metal tilt-top mechanisms.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-sawn timber marks, natural oxidisation on untouched wood surfaces, hand-carved decorative motifs, and original period brass hardware with age-appropriate wear.

A Georgian mahogany dining table can be paired with modern upholstered dining chairs or minimalist lighting fixtures to create visual contrast while anchoring the rooms proportions.

Maintain mahogany by dusting with a dry microfibre cloth, applying beeswax periodically along the wood grain, and placing the furniture away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
