Cased Pair of 50-Bore Percussion Duelling Pistols Pistols, by Lacy & Co., London, Circa 1835

19th century
Description

The pistols with browned octagonal damascus sighted barrels. Signed on the top flat "Lacy & Co of London" and also named to the lock plate "Lacy & Co".

Engraved case-hardened patent breeches incorporating the back-sights, foliate engraved case-hardened tangs and locks, the latter signed and fitted with safety-catch. The hammer with dolphin top & decorated trigger guard.

Varnished figured walnut three-quarter stocks, flattened chequered butts, steel & silver mounts, silver escutcheons and silver barrel-bolt escutcheons, both with ram rods.

Nearly all in their original finish: in original lined and fitted oak case containing a brass shot flask, shot maker marked '34', double ended walnut screwdriver case, barrel cleaning tool and other tools.

The lid with trade label of Lacy & Reynolds, 21, Great St. Helen's, Crosby Square, London. May not be the original label as the pistols signed Lacy & Co of London.

Sold as an exempt item under Section 58 (2) of the 1968 Firearms Act, Antique/Obsolete calibre, can be held without licence, to be held as a curiosity or ornament, buyer must be over the age of 18

Condition

Both go into the half cock and full cock position well, trigger moves freely, generally excellent condition. Please see photos for condition.

Lacy & Co [1776-1840]

John George Son of William, apprentice to Jackson Mortimer, 1799; free of Farriers Co., 1809. Elected Assistant, 1822; Master, 1829. Sword Cutler & Gunmaker to Prince Regent (Successor to Bennett & Lacy) 67 Threadneedle St. (opp. North Gate, Royal Exchange) 1810-14 Became Lacy & Witton. With Samson Davis granted Eng. Patent. No. 6046 (Improved percussion lock) 1830.

"Lacy & Co of London" had a shop in London. Made flintlock holster pistols and flintlock muskets under Royal Government Contract. Later made double barrel, over and under, percussion pistols with swivel ramrods and belt hooks. Name changed to Lacey & Reynolds from 1840 to 1853. Made percussion pepperboxes.

LACY: In 1841 Census, gun manufacturer, age 55, Stamford Hill, Hackney. Under own name, gunmaker to East India Co., 1834-52.
