This mid-19th-century Swedish Empire period centre table is constructed from mahogany and mahogany veneer with brass hardware, finished in a dark brown colour. The oval top displays arranged flame mahogany veneers above a generous apron, a beaded frieze moulding, and a single deep drawer on the front fitted with a keyhole escutcheon. Below, the piece stands on a shaped octagonal pedestal stem supported by a quadriform base with quadruped scroll feet. Recent workshop repolishing creates a good rich colour, accompanied by minor restorations to the woodwork and minor wear to the leather surface. The piece measures 74.3 cm high, 132 cm wide, and 94.6 cm deep, with a knee height of 61 cm and a writing height of 69 cm. In a contemporary home, this table suits use in a living room, study, or hallway as a grand statement surface with functional writing storage.

Originating in the 19th century, a centre table was designed to sit at the middle of a drawing room or entrance hall to display decorative items and facilitate social gatherings.

Cabinetmakers typically utilised solid mahogany or oak for the structural framing, overlaid with figured flame mahogany or rosewood veneers and finished with shellac French polish.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints on frieze drawers, original brass castors concealed beneath scroll feet, and natural age-related oxidisation on the underside of timber components.

Position the table in a spacious entrance hall or central living area, styling the surface with contemporary ceramics, art monographs, or structured floral arrangements to create a visual bridge between period and modern design.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, apply beeswax sparingly along the timber grain twice a year, and keep the table away from direct heat sources and sunlight to preserve the veneer.
