Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Philip Carrol Antiques

A rare Derby porcelain dish, c. 1790. The hexagonal dish, finely hand painted in the Chinese famille verte style of the Kangxi Period, with a central panel of exotic birds in a garden setting, a jardiniere of plants set upon a plinth, within a lappet border.

The outer border, with phoenix flying upon a dense floral ground, within a lappet moulded border, painted in iron red and gilt.

Having three sprigs of flowers to the reverse.

Puce painted factory mark to the reverse.

This is an example of Derby faithfully copying an original Chinese porcelain design, therefore indicating that the dish was produced as a replacement for a damaged original piece from a Chinese dinner or dessert service.

Diameter – 24.5 cm, 9 5/8”.

Condition – Minute wear to the enamels. No damage. No restoration.
