Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A maritime ship diorama is a three-dimensional folk art construction, typically framed within a glazed shadowbox, depicting a carved vessel against a hand-painted backdrop of sea and sky. These pieces gained widespread popularity during the 19th century, frequently created by sailors or coastal artisans to commemorate specific sailing ships.

Craftsmen constructed these dioramas using carved softwood or pine for the vessel hulls and sails, combined with thread or fine wire for rigging. The background scenes were painted using oil or tempera paints, and the entire assembly was enclosed in a wooden frame behind glass to protect the delicate elements.

Authentic period examples display signs of hand-carving on the ship components, hand-drawn or painted background detailing, and natural age-related oxidisation or craquelure on the paint surfaces. The glazing often features historic hand-blown glass, and the rear backing exhibits traditional joinery and aged timber.

Mount the shadowbox on a neutral feature wall, place it above a timber sideboard, or incorporate it into a curated gallery wall alongside antique maps and nautical prints. The three-dimensional structure adds architectural texture to coastal, traditional, or eclectic interior schemes.

Display the item away from direct sunlight and high humidity to prevent paint fading, wood warping, or condensation behind the glass. Clean the exterior glass carefully with a dry microfiber cloth, avoiding liquid cleaners that could seep into the sealed wooden frame.
