Salt glazing is a ceramic technique where common salt is thrown into the kiln during high-temperature firing, producing a vitreous, textured surface resembling orange peel. This method gained widespread popularity in Europe, particularly in Britain and Germany, from the seventeenth century onwards.

These pieces were typically shaped using durable clay bodies fired at high temperatures, often utilizing hand-modelling or mould-pressed techniques combined with applied salt glaze to achieve a hard, impervious finish.

Authentication relies on examining the distinctive stippled orange-peel texture of the glaze, weight, glaze pooling, and characteristic wear patterns consistent with age and firing methods of the period.

Place the object as a focal point on a bookshelf, mantelpiece, or wooden side table where its historical texture and form can provide a sophisticated contrast to modern minimalist decor.

Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth and avoid harsh chemical cleaners, immersion in water, or abrasive materials that could compromise the historical glaze surface.
