This is a rare and substantial heavily carved giltwood frame dating the late 17th century, circa 1690.
The frame has a characteristic Baroque styling with egg and dart hand carving to the deeply concave ogee design. This has its original hand forged metal hanger to the reverse.
The frame measures 42 cms by 42 cms and is a good 10 cms deep overall .
The aperture is 12.5 x 13 with the rebate at the back for the picture being 16 cms by 17 cms.
