Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

In the nineteenth century, glass domes were widely used to protect delicate household objects from dust and atmospheric pollution. Common items displayed beneath them included mantel clocks, taxidermy specimens, wax fruit, and artificial floral arrangements.

Traditional glass domes were constructed from thin, hand-blown glass covers fitted onto turned wooden bases. The bases were frequently finished with dark stains or black lacquer and often included a fabric or velvet inset pad.

Authentic period glass domes typically feature subtle imperfections in the hand-blown glass, such as tiny air bubbles, slight waviness, and slight variations in glass thickness. Additionally, original wooden bases usually exhibit authentic age-related wear, tool marks, and shrinkage to the timber.

Glass domes function as focal points on sideboards, mantelpieces, or shelving units. They can be styled with botanical specimens, architectural fragments, mineral crystals, or small sculptures to create curated vignettes.

Clean the glass cover using a soft, lint-free cloth and mild glass cleaner, applying the solution directly to the cloth rather than the glass. Dust the wooden base gently with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish periodically to maintain the wood.
