This Georgian mahogany tripod table is an 18th century tea table designed with a round top made from a single piece of Cuban timber. Surmounting the timber surface is a separate scalloped piecrust edge, reflecting typical construction methods of the period. The visible details include rich waxed patination on the warm brown wood, a single central turned column, and three cabriole legs terminating in pad feet. Original ironwork secures the mechanism to the underside, and the top remains stable and secure. The piece measures 71 cm high, 65 cm wide, and 65 cm deep, offering a compact footprint suitable for various domestic spaces. Placed at the end of a sofa or beside a living room armchair, it serves as a practical surface for resting drinks or books while adding traditional English country house character to the interior.

Popularised in 18th-century Britain, a Georgian tripod table is an occasional table featuring a central turned pedestal supported by three cabriole legs, frequently constructed with a tilt-top mechanism that allows the surface to tilt vertically when not in use.

These tables were primarily crafted from dense mahogany, featuring hand-turned pedestal stems, dovetailed leg joints anchored into the base block, and hand-moulded or carved piecrust rims paired with brass catch latches.

Authentic pieces display evidence of hand-planing on the tabletop underside, aged iron or brass tilt catches, slight shrinkage ovality along the circular grain, and original patination across the turned column and feet.

Place the table adjacent to a contemporary armchair or sofa as a compact drinks table, allowing the warm timber grain and carved profile to contrast with modern textiles and wall finishes.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish twice yearly along the grain, ensuring the table is positioned away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent warping.
