FAQs

Regency style spans the early 19th century, characterised by classical motifs inspired by ancient Greece and Rome, including the frequent use of the lyre shape, bold painted finishes, and refined proportions.

These pieces were typically constructed from hardwoods such as mahogany, beech, or pine, featuring hand-turned standards, adjustable brass or wooden mechanisms, and hand-painted or gilt decoration.

Authenticity is identified through period-appropriate joinery, hand-forged or early brass adjustment screws, natural ageing of the timber and paintwork, and traditional hand-brushed finishes rather than modern equivalents.

Such pieces function effectively as sculptural accents in living rooms or studies, holding open art books, sheet music, or simply displayed as standalone decorative objects.

Preservation requires keeping the item away from direct sunlight and extreme humidity fluctuations, dusting gently with a dry microfibre cloth, and avoiding chemical polishes that can damage historic painted surfaces.
