This pair of French Empire style cassolette urns dates to 1890, rendered in solid variegated red Breccia marble with original ormolu and bronze fixtures. Each decorative vase displays distinctive cast swan head handles, intricate floral garlands, and is surmounted by a removable lid with a pinecone finial. The urns stand on turned ormolu pedestals mounted onto square marble plinth bases, presenting rich natural grains and colours in the stone alongside a developed patina on the metalwork. Practical for display, these ornamental pieces measure 50 cm in height and suit placement on a mantelpiece in a drawing room or study to bring classical French chateau style to an interior.

Originating in 18th and 19th-century Europe, a cassolette is a decorative vessel historically designed as a perfume burner or incense container, often crafted in pairs with removable or reversible lids.

These decorative objects were predominantly constructed from cut variegated marble, alabaster, or porphyry, complemented by gilded bronze, also known as ormolu, structural and surface mounts.

Authentic pieces feature hand-chased gilt bronze mounts showing minor oxidisation, natural veining and varied colouration within the stone, and classical motifs such as swan handles, laurel swags, and pinecone finials.

Place the pair symmetrically on a fireplace mantelpiece, credenza, or console table alongside framed artwork to create classical balance and visual focal points.

Wipe marble surfaces with a dry soft cloth, avoiding liquid solvents or acidic cleaners, and gently dust gilded bronze mounts with a soft brush to prevent moisture damage.
