An unusual fine quality mid-19th Century serpentine-shaped Writing Table, having coromandel end-grain moulded edge top and tulipwood crossbanding throughout. The Table, profusely inlaid with strapwork & flower garlands, supported on cabriole legs applied with gilt brass corner mounts. Robert Blake and his family were firmly established in the London cabinet making Industry during the reigns of George IV, William IV, and Queen Victoria. Robert was established from 1826 to 1839 and he was known for his work in the style of Boulle who was established in France during the reign of Louis XIV in the 17th century. Blake occasionally worked for Edward Holmes Baldock who was a dealer to the Royal Family and John Webb, a dealer in Old Bond Street.The Blake family were established at 8 Stephen Street Tottenham Court Road, London, from 1826 to when the company closed in 1881.
