Nineteenth-century stick stands gained popularity in British households during the Victorian era as practical items for hallways to store walking sticks, canes, and umbrellas.

These items were typically manufactured from heavy-fired earthenware, stoneware, or terracotta, often finished with hand-painted polychrome glazes or transfer-printed designs.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the crazing in the glaze, weight of the ceramic body, hand-painted details, and any impressed maker marks or registration numbers on the base.

They can be utilised practically in an entrance hall for umbrellas or repurposed as decorative vessels for dried botanicals and long-stemmed branches.

Clean gently with a soft, dry cloth and avoid harsh chemical cleaners. Ensure the interior remains dry to prevent moisture absorption and subsequent glaze damage.
