Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A pole screen is a piece of hearth furniture consisting of an adjustable panel mounted on a central vertical rod. Popular during the Regency era, these screens featured Chinoiserie decoration, which incorporated East Asian artistic motifs, landscapes, and figures rendered in gilt on dark lacquered surfaces.

Pole screens were typically constructed using a turned wood or brass central column supported by a tripod or tri-form base. The adjustable screen panel was often framed in turned timber or brass and featured materials such as lacquered or japanned wood, needlework, silk, or painted papier-mache.

Authentic Regency pole screens usually display turn-of-the-nineteenth-century construction techniques, including hand-carved tri-form or tripod bases, brass brassware fittings with screw-adjustments, and hand-painted or lacquered panels showing age-appropriate surface crazing and minor wear.

An antique pole screen is positioned alongside a fireplace hearth, within an alcove, or in a reading corner. Its vertical profile adds height and historical texture to living rooms or hallways without occupying significant floor space.

Lacquered and ebonised surfaces should be dusted regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth to prevent scratch marks. Exposure to direct heat sources or sunlight should be avoided to prevent cracking, and liquid cleaners or harsh abrasive chemicals must not be applied to gilt lacquerwork.
