FAQs

Traditional Chinese hardwood stands, often crafted from dense timbers like zitan, huali, or jumu, were historically used in scholar studios and elite households to elevate important objects such as porcelain vases, bronze vessels, and scholarly rocks, signifying status and appreciation for art.

Authentic pieces are typically constructed using dense, exotic hardwoods utilising traditional mortise and tenon joinery without the use of metal nails or screws. This allows the timber to expand and contract naturally with changes in humidity.

Authentication involves examining the patina, tool marks, joinery precision, and the weight of the timber. Antique pieces exhibit natural wear patterns, hand-cut joinery, and a dry, deep lustre developed over decades or centuries of handling and polishing.

These tall stands can be integrated into modern spaces as sculptural focal points in empty corners, used to display large ceramic vessels, contemporary art sculptures, or architectural specimens to add verticality and textural warmth to a room.

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity levels between 40-50 percent and avoiding direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber splitting. Dust regularly with a dry, soft cloth and avoid using silicone-based polishes or harsh chemical cleaners.
