A Georgian dining table refers to tables produced during the reigns of Kings George I to IV (1714 to 1830), characterised by classic proportions, fine cabinet-making techniques, and prominent use of imported mahogany.

These tables were predominantly constructed from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers applied to secondary woods such as oak or pine, frequently fitted with brass castors on the legs.

Authenticity is assessed by examining traditional joinery methods, hand-cut secondary timbers, natural patina, tool marks, and period-appropriate hardware rather than modern fixings.

An antique mahogany table works well as a central dining room focal point, paired with contrasting contemporary seating to create a balanced transitional aesthetic.

Preserve the finish by dusting with a dry microfibre cloth, avoiding chemical polishes, and keeping the wood away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking.
