Dealers Notes

Our stock includes early oak and walnut furniture from the 18th century, as well as more formal pieces from the Georgian period. Clocks, barometers and globes are complemented by Colonial cabinets, furniture and early arms. Their scientific instruments, which include early microscopes, telescopes and equipment such as sextants, provide a fascinating insight into the evolution of technology, whilst demonstrating fine artistry and craftsmanship. One of Hansord’s many exhibitions was entitled ‘From simplicity to complexity with a little eccentricity’ and this continues to be the guiding mantra behind their collection today.

This eighteenth-century Chippendale period occasional table is constructed from mahogany with a warm brown timber colour and polished finish. The square top features a raised gallery border, set upon a turned and fluted stem above three cabriole legs with carved acanthus leaf details and pad feet. The table stands 79 cm high, 56 cm wide, and 56 cm deep. In a modern home, this piece functions well as an end-of-a-sofa table or display stand in a living room, hallway, or study. Its compact tripod footprint makes it suitable for smaller spaces while providing a convenient surface for books, drinks, or decorative items.

A Chippendale mahogany wine table is an 18th-century small occasional table crafted during the mid-to-late Georgian period, characterized by its tripod base, carved detailing, and compact top originally designed for holding drinks or candles.

These tables were typically crafted from solid mahogany, featuring hand-turned pedestals, hand-carved cabriole legs, and square or circular tops that often incorporated raised gallery rims or tilt-top mechanisms secured with brass catches.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-carved details with minor irregularities, hand-cut dovetails or hand-wrought screws, original brass tilt catches, natural patination under the tabletop, and hand-planed underside surfaces.

A tripod wine table serves as an ideal accent piece placed adjacent to an armchair, positioned within a reading nook, or set beside a sofa to hold small decorative items, a reading lamp, or drinks.

Preserve the surface by dusting with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year, ensuring the piece is kept away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage or fading.
