Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Sevres style porcelain refers to European ceramics produced in the manner of the famous French Royal Manufactory of Sevres. During the late nineteenth century, third-party workshops produced decorative items featuring rich ground colours such as bleu celeste, ornate hand-painted panels, and fine gilt-bronze mounts inspired by eighteenth-century designs.

These pieces combine glazed porcelain decorated with overglaze enamels and gold leaf gilding. The mounting framework is crafted from cast bronze or brass that has been gilded, a technique known as ormolu, to create decorative handles, rims, and footings.

Examine the quality of the hand painting under magnification, as genuine hand-painted enamels show brushstrokes rather than transfer print dots. Look for cast bronze mounts that fit the ceramic outline precisely, along with characteristic marks such as crossed Ls, though many nineteenth-century revival pieces carry pseudo-factory marks.

Place the comport as a central statement piece on a polished dining table, sideboard, or fireplace mantel. Contrast its ornate classicism by positioning it against neutral backdrops or minimalist surfaces to highlight the detailed gilded mounts and vibrant porcelain colour.

Dust the item regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth or a soft bristle brush for intricate metalwork recesses. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners, abrasive polishes, or submerging the piece in water, as moisture can damage internal fixings and compromise the painted enamels.
