This Georgian occasional table has a circular, figured mahogany one-piece top finished in a warm brown timber colour with a tilt-top mechanism. The pedestal base includes a turned central column decorated with spiral reeding near the top, along with three cabriole legs featuring acanthus leaf carving and claw and ball feet. Signs of age include natural grain variations and gentle surface wear visible across the wooden surfaces. Measuring 69.3 cm high, 90.2 cm wide, and 90.2 cm deep, this piece serves as a traditional English country house accent in an empty corner or seating area. It functions practically for daily use in a living room, study, or hallway as a surface for lamps, books, or decorative objects when the top is lowered.

Developed in 18th-century Britain, a tilt-top tripod table features a hinged circular surface mounted on a central pillar supported by three cabriole legs. The top tilts vertically to allow space-saving storage against a wall when not in use for serving tea or hosting guests.

These tables were predominantly constructed from solid West Indian or Cuban mahogany, valued for its density and fine grain. Construction details include a hand-turned central stem, hand-carved legs attached via dovetail joints, and a metal tilt-latch mechanism securing the top.

Authentic pieces display hand-saw marks under the top, period brass or iron latch fittings, and hand-carved details such as acanthus leaves or ball-and-claw feet showing uneven wear patterns. The mahogany finish typically exhibits age-appropriate oxidisation and deep tone variations.

Place the table in an empty corner, bay window, or beside an armchair as a functional accent table. Pairing rich mahogany wood with modern minimalist lighting, neutral linen upholstery, or abstract artwork creates a balanced, eclectic aesthetic.

Keep the table away from direct sunlight, radiator heat, and high humidity to prevent timber movement or finish degradation. Apply a natural beeswax polish twice a year following the wood grain, avoiding silicone sprays, and always use coasters.
