This early 20th century French country garden dining bench takes the form of a long, single-plank pine seat supported by shaped trestle legs. The timber displays a pale brown colour with visible historic knocks, marks, cracks, scratches, and extinct woodworm holes, along with pegged joinery. Stencilled black lettering runs along the top of the seat. Measuring 232 cm wide by 24 cm deep by 45 cm high, the piece possesses no loose joints and remains strong throughout following historic repairs. Practical for everyday use, this functional antique serves as a seating option for a long dining table, hallway, or garden setting. The narrow profile allows placement in compact hallways or along narrow corridors where space is restricted, while the sturdy construction supports seating needs in casual dining areas.

A French harvest bench was traditionally crafted for seasonal agricultural workers during crop harvests, such as the annual grape harvest in French vineyard regions.

These benches were constructed from solid regional timber, featuring simple trestle supports, cross-braced bases, and pegged or iron-fastened joinery designed for utility and durability.

Genuine pieces often display original stencilled lettering, regional agricultural marks, visible saw cuts, natural edge wear, and surface patination consistent with historic outdoor use.

A long harvest bench functions alongside a modern dining table, in a wide hallway as entryway seating, or positioned against a wall in a open-plan living space.

Dust regularly with a dry cloth, treat untreated timber with clear wax polish, and avoid exposure to standing water or direct heat sources.
