Tunbridge Ware refers to a specific type of wooden ornamentation, typically involving mosaic marquetry, produced principally in the town of Tunbridge Wells, Kent, during the 18th and 19th centuries.

Pieces are constructed using multiple species of naturally coloured British and foreign woods, cut into thousands of minuscule geometric tiles assembled to form intricate pictorial or mosaic designs.

Authentic pieces feature exceptionally tight geometric mosaic tesserae, often with signature perspective cube or floral motifs, and typically show signs of age-related patina on the timber surfaces.

Displaying these items on a bookshelf, desk, or mantelpiece adds texture, historical depth, and a focal point of intricate craftsmanship to contemporary living spaces.

Keep wooden pieces away from direct sunlight and fluctuating humidity levels to prevent the tiny veneer tiles from shrinking or loosening, and clean only with a dry, soft cloth.
