Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This large refectory dining table belongs to the 1920 period in a rustic farmhouse style. The piece combines a natural honey-toned timber plank top with heavy turned double baluster legs finished in a dark charcoal paint, supported by a sturdy central floor stretcher. Visible details include rounded mouldings on the pedestals and subtle grain variations across the wooden surface. The table measures 250 cm long, 99 cm wide, and 77 cm high. Such a substantial dining table suits daily family meals or large gatherings in a spacious kitchen or dining room. Placed centrally, it offers ample seating capacity for multiple guests while anchoring an interior design scheme with its contrasting wood and painted finishes.

FAQs

A refectory table is a long, narrow table originally used for communal dining in monasteries during the Middle Ages, characterised by a solid wooden top, heavy turned legs, and a low central stretcher.

Traditional refectory tables are crafted from solid hardwoods such as oak or softwoods like pine, featuring mortise and tenon joinery and solid timber stretchers connecting the pedestal supports.

Authentic historical designs feature hand-planed timber tops, original wood peg construction, visible wear along the stretcher rails from foot placement, and heavy turned baluster legs.

In modern spaces, pair a solid pine refectory table with contemporary metal or upholstered dining chairs to create a balanced contrast between rustic texture and clean lines.

Maintain solid pine by wiping surfaces with a damp cloth, applying a high-quality beeswax polish periodically, and using placemats to protect the finish from heat and moisture.
