Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Irish serpentine front console table dates from 1860 in the Rococo Revival style. Constructed from carved wood with an off-white painted finish and a white marble top, it displays elaborate scroll carving along the apron and shoulders, sweeping cabriole legs terminating in scrolled feet, and a shaped moulded edge to the top slab. It measures 84 cm high, 144 cm wide, and 55 cm deep. In a modern home, this piece sits well beside the front door as an elegant display surface or entrance hall table. The weathered surface patina and sculptural carved details bring character to a reception area or living space, providing a practical platform for lamps, vases, or daily essentials.

FAQs

An Irish serpentine console table is a wall-supported or standalone accent table characterized by an undulating S-curve front profile. Historical Irish examples frequently incorporate distinctive regional carving traditions, heavy scrollwork, and sturdy cabriole legs.

Traditional console tables were constructed primarily from hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or pine, often finished with paint, gilding, or polished wood treatments. Top surfaces frequently utilised imported slate or carved marble slabs for durability and visual weight.

Authentic period console tables show signs of age on non-visible surfaces, such as unpolished underside timber, hand-sawn tool marks, and square-headed cut nails or wooden dowels. Original marble tops usually display minor natural veining, edge wear, and hand-chiseled undersides.

Position the console table against a neutral focal wall in an entryway, hallway, or living room to highlight its curved silhouette. Complement the sculpted frame by hanging a large structural mirror above it and arranging balanced decorative items on the marble surface.

Clean the marble top using a soft cloth dampened with pH-neutral water or specialist stone cleaner, avoiding acidic substances like vinegar. Dust the painted wooden base with a dry microfibre cloth and avoid placing the piece near direct heat sources to prevent timber movement.
