FAQs

Originating in 18th-century France, an etagere table is an open-shelved piece of furniture designed to display small ornaments, books, or collectables across multiple tiers.

Craftsmen typically used fine hardwoods like rosewood, kingwood, or walnut for the main structure, overlaid with floral marquetry inlays and detailed brass or gilt-bronze mounts.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut wood veneers, traditional underside joinery, natural timber ageing, and heavy gilt-bronze mounts secured with aged fixings.

Position the table in a reading nook, beside a sofa, or in a hallway, styling the open tiers with curated books, decorative objects, or botanical elements.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft lint-free cloth, keep the item away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent veneer movement, and apply beeswax sparingly.
