Anglo-Indian carving refers to decorative items crafted in the Indian subcontinent during the British colonial period, often combining traditional local craftsmanship with European forms and functional designs.

These items are predominantly constructed from dense, dark hardwoods such as ebony or sandalwood, frequently featuring intricate hand-carved details and sometimes inlay accents like bone or ivory.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit deep natural patina, tool marks consistent with hand-chiselling, aged grain patterns, and signs of historical wear rather than uniform machine-made precision.

They can be placed on a bookshelf, desk, or mantelpiece to anchor rows of books, adding textural contrast, historical interest, and a touch of global character to contemporary shelving schemes.

Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth and avoid harsh chemical cleaners, excessive moisture, or direct sunlight to prevent the dense hardwood from drying out or splitting over time.
