This Georgian drop-leaf dining table dates from circa 1780 and exemplifies the English Country House style. Constructed from mahogany, it displays a warm brown colour with a polished finish and a patinated surface across the wooden top. The design incorporates a drop-leaf top joined by rule joints, tapered legs, and pad feet. The visible details include the rich grain of the timber and the slender turned legs terminating in pad feet. Measuring 71 cm high, 114.5 cm wide, and 141 cm deep when fully extended, the piece seats up to six people. It functions practically in a dining room or a kitchen as a multi-configuration table.

A Georgian drop-leaf dining table dates from the eighteenth century and features hinged side flaps supported by movable gate-legs or swing-out legs to alter the size of the dining surface.

Tables from this period were predominantly crafted from dense solid timbers such as mahogany or oak, assembled using hand-cut joinery and heavy iron leaf hinges.

Authentic pieces feature period-correct details such as hand-sawn underside timber marks, original iron rule-joint hinges, slender cabriole legs terminating in pad feet, and natural timber shrinkage across the leaves.

This versatile design can be placed fully extended in a dining room alongside contemporary chairs, or positioned against a wall with leaves dropped to function as a compact console table.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a quality natural beeswax polish periodically while keeping the timber away from direct heat sources and high humidity fluctuations.
