Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 19TH CENTURY:
Drawer base with central muntin divider: early nineteenth-century cabinet making.
Book-matched flame mahogany drawer front: timber choice popular during the Regency period.
Solid wood ratchet mechanism beneath the lid: mechanical folio design from the 1820s.
X-shaped end stretchers with octagonal central bosses: classical detailing of the George IV era.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This early 19th-century Regency mahogany library table functions as a workspace with period character. The timber displays a rich warm brown hue with visible grain patterns across the structural elements, complemented by a dark leather writing surface bordered with gold-tooled decorative lines. A low wooden gallery runs along the rear edge, and the single frieze drawer is fitted with small round brass pull knobs. The supports consist of square-section legs joined by intersecting X-frame stretchers near the base, terminating in block feet with inset castors. Two tall brass candlesticks, an inkwell with a white quill pen, a paperweight, and several loose papers complete the arrangement on top of the surface. Measuring 75 cm high, 147.3 cm wide, and 79 cm deep, the table provides ample surface area for working with documents and reference materials. It serves as a practical writing desk in a study, home office, or library setting. The traditional design and dark timber finish suit period-style interiors or function as a focal point in a traditional working room.

FAQs

Regency library tables typically feature classical proportions, high-quality mahogany construction, and leather writing surfaces, designed for study or reading rooms in early 19th-century British homes.

These tables were predominantly constructed from solid mahogany or flame mahogany veneers, often fitted with gold-tooled leather writing surfaces, brass drawer handles, and steel lock mechanisms.

Authentic pieces feature early 19th-century construction details, such as hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, original brass hardware, period-correct leather top tooling, and classical architectural leg design.

A Regency library table functions as a central statement piece in a modern study or office, pairing effectively with modern neutral wall palettes, contemporary task lighting, and structured seating.

Dust the wood regularly with a soft microfibre cloth, apply high-quality beeswax annually along the grain, and treat the leather inset with a specialist leather conditioner to prevent drying.
