The George III period spans from 1760 to 1820, characterised by a transition from heavy rococo influences to more refined neoclassical designs popularised by makers such as Thomas Chippendale, George Hepplewhite, and Thomas Sheraton.

Cabinet makers predominantly used solid mahogany imported from the West Indies, often supplemented with secondary timbers such as oak and pine for drawer linings and internal framing.

Authentication relies on examining hand-cut dovetails on drawer construction, hand-turned or tapered legs, patination from age, and traditional joinery methods that predate modern manufacturing.

Pairing a dark wood antique with contemporary minimalist seating or placing it against a neutral painted wall creates a striking contrast that highlights the rich grain of the timber.

Maintain antique mahogany by dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth and occasionally applying natural beeswax to nourish the wood, avoiding direct sunlight and excessive humidity.
