This Georgian side table belongs to the George III period and is constructed from mahogany with a warm brown timber colour and polished finish. The rectangular top has a thumb-moulded edge, positioned above two frieze drawers lined with oak. These drawers hold brass bell-shaped drop handles. The cross piece underneath the drawers has a chamfered edge, and the piece stands on four straight, chamfered square legs. Signs of age and wear include minor surface scuffs on the top. The piece measures 73 cm high, 81 cm wide, and 46 cm deep. It fits well in a hallway beside the front door as a surface for keys and mail, or functions as a compact writing desk in a home study.

Furniture produced during the reign of King George III (17601820) is characterised by classical proportions, symmetry, and the predominant use of mahogany. Design influences evolved from Rococo elements into restrained Neoclassical forms popularised by cabinetmakers like Thomas Chippendale and George Hepplewhite.

Cabinetmakers primarily used solid or veneered mahogany, supported by secondary timbers such as oak or Scots pine for drawer linings. Drawers were assembled using hand-cut dovetail joints, complemented by cast brass handles and hand-chiselled lock plates.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-saw marks on secondary surfaces, irregular hand-cut dovetail joints, and natural oxidisation on drawer interiors. Original brass hardware will show subtle irregularities and historic mounting marks on the reverse of the drawer fronts.

A two-drawer side table functions effectively as a hallway console table, a compact home office writing desk, or an accent piece behind a sofa. Its linear structure allows it to pair with modern artwork, contemporary lighting, and minimalist ceramics.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth, avoiding abrasive liquid cleansers and silicone polishes. Apply a natural beeswax paste once or twice a year to nourish the timber and protect the original patination.
