Gothic Revival furniture draws inspiration from medieval architectural elements, featuring pointed arches, heavy carved detailing, dark woods, and robust proportions popular during the 19th century.

These desks were typically constructed from dense hardwoods like solid oak or mahogany, frequently incorporating tooled leather writing surfaces, brass hardware, and hand-cut dovetail joinery in the drawers.

Authenticity is identified through period-correct construction methods, such as hand-cut joinery, traditional finishing techniques like shellac or wax, natural timber ageing, and period hardware without modern fixings.

An antique desk serves as a grounding focal point in a contemporary study or living room, pairing effectively with minimalist modern seating to create a balanced contrast between old and new.

Maintain timber by regularly applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the grain, while protecting the leather inlay with specialised leather dressings, keeping the piece away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
