Staffordshire pottery figures are earthenware ceramic sculptures produced in the Staffordshire potteries in England, particularly during the 19th century, often depicting historical events, literary figures, or animals for display on mantelpieces.

These figures were typically made from earthenware clay, cast in moulds, hand-painted with ceramic colours under or over the glaze, and fired in pottery kilns.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit crazing in the glaze, air vent holes on the underside, hand-painted detailing with characteristic pallet hues, and weight consistent with porous earthenware from the 19th century.

They can be displayed on open shelving, mantelpieces, or enclosed glass cabinets to add historical character, colour, and a collected aesthetic to contemporary spaces.

Keep ceramic pieces out of direct sunlight, dust gently with a soft dry cloth, and avoid using chemical cleaning agents or submerging them in water to protect the historic glaze and paintwork.
