This George IV mahogany pedestal Pembroke work table belongs to the Georgian period and has a warm brown colour. The rectangular top has two drop leaves decorated with ebony stringing, resting above a single drawer featuring ebony stringing, a keyhole escutcheon, and two small round brass knobs. The frieze box includes side panels with matching ebony stringing, and stands on a central ring-turned column. A quadruple set of splayed legs with hipped knees supports the pedestal, enhanced by ebony inlay and finished with cast brass paw castors. The table measures 71 cm high, 36 cm wide, and 58 cm deep in practical terms. It suits placement at the end of a sofa or as an occasional table in a living room or study to hold a lamp, book, or small decorative items.

Originating in the late 18th century, a Pembroke table is a compact drop-leaf occasional table frequently fitted with drawers for needlework, writing, or small everyday tasks.

Tables from the George IV era were typically constructed from solid and veneered mahogany, often highlighted with ebony stringing inlay, turned pedestals, and cast brass feet or castors.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, original period brass hardware, age-consistent patina, and characteristic quadripartite pedestal bases with splayed legs.

A Pembroke table functions effectively as an occasional side table beside a sofa or armchair, where the drop leaves can be extended or folded to adjust to the available space.

Maintain the surface by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying beeswax sparingly along the grain, keeping the item away from direct sunlight and radiators.
