This Victorian Rococo Revival centre table dates from 1860. The piece is constructed from walnut and burr walnut in a warm brown timber tone, decorated with intricate foliate wood inlay along the shaped, scalloped edge and central pedestal. The heavy carved quadruped base includes scrolled feet fitted with original castors. Double mouldings define the edge of the large top surface, which stands on a heavily carved central column and tip mechanism complete with brass hardware. Practical dimensions are 72 cm high, 160 cm wide, and 127 cm deep, seating six to eight people. In a contemporary home, this large freestanding table functions as a dining or display surface in a spacious principal room.
