Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Georgian foldover tea table is a practical piece of mahogany furniture from the period around 1790, styled in the English Country tradition. The timber has a dark brown colour with an original polished finish that displays surface scratches, wear, and minor chips along the edges. The rectangular top opens to form a larger surface, supported by a plain frieze and square tapered legs with visible brass hinges along the rear join. Measuring Height 71 cm, Width 91 cm, Depth Closed 43 cm, and Depth Open 86 cm, this versatile occasional table suits placement beside the front door or as a side table in a hallway or living room, where it can be opened out when extra surface area is required.

FAQs

A Georgian foldover tea table is an 18th-century piece of furniture designed with a hinged top that folds down to halve its depth for placement against a wall, or opens out to serve tea or host card games.

These tables were primarily crafted from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers, often incorporating brass butt hinges and secondary timbers such as oak, pine, or deal for internal framing.

Authentic pieces typically feature hand-cut joinery, hand-planed underside surfaces, historical timber shrinkage, and original brass hardware paired with gate-leg or rear swing-leg mechanisms.

Position the table closed against a narrow wall or hallway to serve as a compact console table, or open the top to display decorative objects and table lamps in a living area.

Apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year, clean surfaces with a soft dry cloth, and place the item away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to protect the finish.
