Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This mid nineteenth century Victorian writing table is rendered in a warm brown mahogany with a solid, well-figured top above two frieze drawers fitted with wooden knob handles. The construction incorporates slender turned legs terminating in brass cup castors, accented by fine mouldings framing the drawers. Measuring 77 cm high, 102 cm wide and 51 cm deep, the piece offers practical proportions for daily use. In a contemporary home, the table serves as a functional writing desk or small side table in a study, library or bedroom. The design integrates easily into traditional or transitional English country house interiors while providing useful surface and drawer storage.

FAQs

Mid-19th-century writing tables typically feature solid timber construction, twin frieze drawers for stationery storage, turned tapered legs, and brass castors, reflecting mid-Victorian functional design.

These tables were predominantly crafted from solid mahogany or rosewood, incorporating hand-dovetailed drawer linings, brass escutcheons, and turned timber knobs.

Authentic pieces display hand-cut dovetail joints, original brass castors, natural timber shrinkage over time, and hand-turned details on the support legs.

A mahogany writing table functions well as a compact home office desk, a hallway console table, or a bedroom dressing table, complementing both traditional and modern decor.

Regular dusting with a soft microfiber cloth and periodic application of natural beeswax polish will protect the timber finish and patina; avoid placement near direct heat sources or damp environments.
