FAQs

Royal Worcester figurines are decorative ceramic items produced by the Worcester Royal Porcelain Company, established in England in 1751. During the Victorian era, the manufacture specialized in figural comports and sweetmeat dishes depicting pastoral figures finished with soft glazes and gold detailing.

These items were crafted from fine porcelain or bone china, shaped using multi-piece moulds, and hand-finished with relief textures such as basket-weave patterns. Subsequent firings set the underglaze enamels and hand-applied liquid gold gilding.

Authentic pieces feature the printed or impressed Royal Worcester factory mark on the base, often accompanied by a dot system or date letter used to pinpoint the exact year of manufacture in the late nineteenth century. Original items also display defined hand-painted detail and precise gilding.

Displaying a pair of figural porcelain dishes on a dining sideboard, mantelpiece, or console table introduces historical detail to contemporary spaces. They function effectively as decorative accents alongside polished timber surfaces and neutral backgrounds.

Dust the porcelain regularly using a soft, dry brush or microfibre cloth. Avoid soaking the items in water or applying abrasive chemical cleansers, as moisture can degrade delicate unfired gilding or historical cold repairs.
