This early twentieth-century oak occasional table belongs to the Jacobean Revival style and dates from circa 1920. The rectangular top has a carved piecrust scalloped edge and rests on four barley-twist turned legs united by a lower rectangular stretcher base with round feet. The timber displays a rich, warm brown tone with visible wood grain across the surface and signs of wear to the legs commensurate with age. Measuring 50 cm high, 74 cm wide, and 50 cm deep, the table fits easily into various domestic spaces. Practical for everyday use, this side table serves well at the end of a sofa, as a bedside stand, or as an occasional surface in a drawing room, library, or hallway. Its restrained proportions and English country house style suit both traditional and contemporary interiors as a lamp table or small display surface.

During the interwar period of the 1920s, British furniture manufacturers popularised Jacobean Revival styles, referencing 17th-century English woodwork through heavy oak construction and turned spiralled supports.

These pieces are crafted from solid oak using traditional mortise and tenon joinery, featuring turned barley twist legs and carved moulded edge profiles supported by a perimeter stretcher frame.

Authentic period examples exhibit characteristic quarter-sawn oak grain patterns, period-appropriate joinery, natural surface patination, and specific features like piecrust borders or barley sugar leg turnings.

An oak occasional table functions effectively as a lamp stand alongside modern upholstery, a compact drink surface in a reading corner, or a display surface in an entrance hallway.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish once or twice a year, ensuring the item is positioned away from direct sunlight and radiators to avoid wood movement.
