This architectural model depicts the ruined colonnade of the classical Temple of Saturn in a neoclassical style dating from 1880. Cast in patinated bronze with a dark brown finish, the object includes six Corinthian columns beneath an entablature featuring a carved Latin inscription, set upon a stepped marble plinth of black Nero Portoro stone. Visible details comprise the intricate column capitals, tiered masonry blocks above the base, and broken fragments along the top edge of the structure. Measuring 28.5 cm high, 21.5 cm wide, and 9.2 cm deep, the model is suitable for placement on an office desk within a gentleman's library. It brings classical architectural detail to an interior display space, functioning as a decorative desk accessory or shelf ornament.

During the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, European travellers undertaking the Grand Tour across Italy acquired finely cast scale models of classical Roman ruins, such as the Temple of Saturn, as tangible souvenirs of classical antiquity.

These models were typically cast in patinated dark bronze or carved from coloured marbles such as Siena marble and Nero Marquina, featuring detailed hand-engraved inscriptions and precise chasing.

Authentic nineteenth-century pieces display sharp hand-chasing on the column capitals, precise Latin inscriptions along the entablature, a dark aged patina, and robust mounting onto solid marble plinths.

Position the sculpture on an executive office desk, atop a fireplace chimneypiece, or arranged among book collections on library shelves to create an architectural focal point.

Dust the bronze surfaces regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners that can alter the patination, and clean the stone base with a neutral, non-acidic cleaner.
