Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century French Chateau style coat rack comes in aged brass and porcelain, measuring 12.5 cm high by 63.5 cm wide. The cast brass frame has a turned column framework, detailed finials at the corners and centre, ribbon bow motifs near the top corners, and an aged brass finish. Four folding upper hooks with white ceramic tips extend outward, while four smaller S-hooks hang from the lower bar. Such a piece suits placement beside the front door or in a hallway for hanging coats, hats, and scarves. The structure mounts to a wall surface to provide storage in traditional interiors.

FAQs

Originating in late 19th-century French cafes and public venues, wall-mounted metal coat racks were designed to maximise floor space while providing sturdy storage for hats, coats, and umbrellas.

These fixtures were predominantly constructed from cast or drawn brass, cast iron, and bentwood, frequently incorporating ceramic or porcelain tips on the hooks to prevent wear on delicate fabrics.

Authentic period pieces display cast joinery, hand-threaded screws, irregular surface patination, and natural wear around structural stress points rather than uniform machine finishes.

Mount the rack in an entryway, cloakroom, or utility space to provide functional hanging storage while adding warm metallic tones to neutral background walls.

Clean the brass surfaces using a soft, dry cloth to clear dust, avoiding harsh chemical abrasive cleaners that strip away natural surface oxidation and historical patina.
