This early 20th-century antique English studio pottery figurine, titled "The Daffodil Woman" and produced by Charles Vyse in London around 1925, is modelled as a standing female flower seller in an Art Deco style. The earthenware piece features a polychrome high-gloss glaze depicting a blue and green striped dress, a white apron tied with a purple ribbon, an orange draped shawl, and black shoes. She holds a bunch of yellow daffodils in one hand, while a basket filled with yellow, white, and pink flowers sits beside her on a hexagonal tiled base. The figurine measures 26 cm high, 15.2 cm wide, and 10.2 cm deep. Suitable for interior display in a traditional home, this decorative ceramic object fits well on a mantelpiece or side table to add a touch of historic English pottery craftsmanship to a living room, hallway, or study.

Charles Vyse was an influential British sculptor and potter who, alongside his wife Nell Vyse, established a studio in Chelsea during the 1910s. They became renowned for creating finely detailed earthenware figurines depicting London street characters and flower sellers, bridging fine art sculpture with studio pottery traditions.

Studio figurines of this period were typically slip-cast or hand-modelled in earthenware clay before undergoing an initial bisque firing. Artisans then applied intricate hand-painted enamel glazes before a final firing to achieve vivid colouration and durable glossy surface finishes.

Authentic studio ceramic figures frequently feature incised or painted maker marks, monograms, or dates near the base rim or underside. Examining the glaze quality, fine Modelling details, body weight, and period-appropriate wear patterns helps verify authenticity against later reproductions.

Displaying ceramic figurines on a curated mantelpiece, inside a glazed cabinet, or alongside art books on a shelf introduces texture and character to contemporary rooms. Placing colourful ceramic figures against neutral backdrop surfaces highlights their sculptural contours and decorative glazes.

Dust the figure regularly using a soft dry microfibre cloth or a soft brush to protect the enamel finish. Avoid immersing the piece in water, especially if repairs are present, and use only a slightly damp cloth with mild soap for light surface cleaning.
