This 1930s drinks trolley originates from Heals of London and is constructed from warm brown teak timber combined with metal components. The design includes slatted sides, tiered shelving, drop leaves, and spoked wheels with small casters beneath. A rectangular metal maker badge is fixed to the upper frame, alongside linear horizontal slats across the main body and lower tray. Practical dimensions are 72 cm high, 82 cm wide, and 48 cm deep, with the top extending to 98 cm by 82 cm. Today, this piece functions effectively as a drinks trolley or a practical unit within a kitchen or empty corner of a home interior. The slatted lower tray slides out for easy access, while the drop leaves allow the surface area to expand when serving food or beverages.

Mid-century Heals drinks trolleys typically feature clean, functional lines, high-quality timber joinery, and durable mobile mechanisms. Emphasising utility and restrained British modernist aesthetic, these pieces often incorporate slatted panelling, drop-leaf surfaces, and integrated tray tiers.

Teak was favoured for its dense grain, natural oil content, and resistance to moisture, making it practical for beverage service. Frame elements frequently incorporated solid hardwood, paired with spoked metal wheels and rubber tires or rubberised swivel castors for mobility.

Authentic pieces by Heal & Son frequently carry an inset metal makers plaque, ivory or brass disc, or paper label positioned inside drawers, along upper rails, or on underside frames. Additional indicators include precise mortise-and-tenon joinery, smooth drop-leaf hinges, and specific catalogue hardware designs.

A teak trolley functions as a mobile bar, plant display, or occasional side table within contemporary living rooms, dining spaces, or open-plan areas. The warm timber tones pair well with neutral upholstery, glass barware, and brass or ceramic decorative accessories.

Maintain teak by dusting regularly with a dry lint-free cloth and applying a specialist teak oil or neutral beeswax polish to prevent wood desiccation. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources to avoid timber shrinkage, and clean metal wheel axles with light machine oil to preserve movement.
