Produced between 1820 and 1830, George IV centre tables bridge the refined classicism of the Regency period and early Victorian design. They typically feature heavy central pedestals, dramatic wood veneers such as rosewood or mahogany, and classical carved motifs on the base.

Tables from this period often used solid oak or pine sub-frames covered in thick hand-cut rosewood veneers to highlight dramatic grain patterns. Circular tops frequently incorporated a tilt-top brass latch mechanism mounted above a triform or pedestal base with carved scroll feet.

Authentic pieces feature dark, rich timber with distinct dark streaking, heavy solid brass tilt-top latches, and hand-cut dovetail joints on structural blocks. Underneath the table top, look for natural age shrinkage, oxidation on the secondary timbers, and original castors inset into the feet.

A circular centre table works as a focal point in a large foyer, hallway, or open-plan dining area. Pair with contemporary lighting or modern dining chairs to create a balanced contrast between traditional period woodwork and modern design elements.

Keep rosewood away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent the veneer from drying or lifting. Clean the surface with a soft, dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year to maintain the timber finish.
